I also want to offer my sincere thanks to the 2010 Pajama Jam volunteers who worked so tirelessly behind the scenes. These men and women contribute to much work and time and get so little recognition. They give from their hearts and I appreciate them so very much.

I want to send a shout out and thank you to Jewells Fine Jewelry store on Franklin Road in Roanoke. They have provided a couple of very cool items to this year’s silent auction. We are featuring a  very special Pandora bracelet that wont even actually be available for sale until Monday!  Be sure to look for the brand new Pandora pink leather bracelet with new breast cancer charm. It’s too cool and cute!

Tonight I will remind you to get your mammogram and do your self-check, and for our younger attendees – I will encourage you to “nag someone you love to get their mammogram!” We party, celebrate and have a great time at the Jam and the whole point is about fighting back against breast cancer. I hope you will join me in this fight that I am so very passionate about.

I cannot begin to describe how the many women I have met over the years at this event have touched my heart. This is just such an extraordinary event and we have the opportunity to meet so many extraordinary women! I’m just honored to be a part of it.

 I have to thank Rachel Rodes-Metcalf, our Star Country Promotions Director. She has taken on so much of the detail work and is so awesome at it. I used to wake up at 2 in the morning and worry if we had this for that, and now Rachel sweats the details. She is amazing and I just want everyone to know what an incredible job she does.

Tina Israel also works on staff here at Star Country and she has been a part of the Jam since it’s inception. The first year it was just Tina, her mom and sister (all survivors!) and me. We had 300 ladies at the Windham Hotel that first year and had no idea what we had stumbled on to! This year, 900 attendees strong and a support volunteer staff 40 strong and we are doing  wonderful things for breast cancer awareness!

I do want to remind all of the attendees that while this is a celebration and a wonderful girls night out – it is a benefit event. Each year I find myself needing to remind someone about the cause. We get some odd feedback at times and I have to take a deep breath and say, “but you know we are all here tonight to help fight back against breast cancer…right?!” I hope all of our attendees will remember the cause first.

 More updates to come! The silent auction items are growing daily and I am so excited I want to tell you about as much as I can about Friday night!!

Now the operators are taking names for a “wait list”. That means that in case someone does not pay for their tickets, they will be made available to those on the list. The operators are telling me this list is filling up quickly.

And of course, there will be some opportunities for you to win your way to our benefit concert in the next month and a half.

I want to thank Star Country promotions director Rachel Rodes-Metcalf  her incredible attention to details. She works so very hard on every aspect of this Jam, you truly have no idea. My brain gets full of ideas, and Rachel is one of those people that finds a way to make it happen. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with her.

There is Tina Israel who has worked ont he Pajama Jam since year one, and she continues to be a wonderful driving force for this event.

Fredy Wright, Boomer, Opie Joe on our Star Staff, and Kristen Lukas from the American Cancer Society all got up very early this morning to help with this on sale and were an instrumental part of pulling it all together. It’s all just kind of cool for me to pull back the curtain a little bit and show you a glimpse of the many people who plan and help pull of the Jam. It is a year long project and could not happen without everyone’s support and hard work!

The first in line, Kelly, said she got here at 3:30 this morning. One lady drove 2 hours from North Carolina, while another drove 2 hours from West Virginia! Crazy, exciting and overwhelming!

I was able to hobble out on my crutches and speak to the about 50 people in line and it was so nice to see both familiar faces and meet some new friends too.

It’s just so cool, isn’t it? The support for this event, a benefit for the American Cancer Society for breast cancer is just…humbling. The very first year, I wonder if we could sell 300 tickets! Look at you now! 900 ladies strong and the tickets are almost sold out. It’s about 7:52 a.m. and I just wanted to send a quick note for now, to say, Thank You. You blow me away.

My word to the wise, if it were me, I’d come to the radio station tomorrow to buy my tickets. You absolutely can order by phone, and we will have 6 operators fielding calls and taking your ticket orders,but. Just saying. If I had to worry about getting through on the phone lines, or standing in line…I’d be in line.

Tickets go on sale at 7 a.m. and they are $45 each, limit 4 per person. Cash or money order please.

This annual girls’ night out celebration is a breast cancer awareness event that features education, information, and recognition of our local breast cancer survivors.

 The Pajama Jam is a signature event benefiting the American Cancer Society, raising an impressive $160,000 in our first six years for local breast cancer awareness and education.

The brain child of morning show personality Robynn Jaymes, it’s become a fun way to celebrate our breast cancer survivors, raise awareness and encourage ladies to get their mammograms.  This year, Becky Freemal of FOX 21/27 will co-host our girls night out!

We do in fact wear our pajamas!!!
